How do locals reserve seats?
You can reserve your seat online or reserve/buy your ticket in advance at the bus station ticket booth (This is how local elderly people buy tickets).
Swipe your EasyCard when you get on and get off the bus. Please be sure to top up before queuing. If your EasyCard balance is insufficient, you may lose your place in the queue when you top up at a convenience store.
Note: Passengers cannot/can(Most buses in Taiwan can) buy tickets from the driver using cash. Please prepare the exact amount as the driver will not provide change. Cash should be inserted into the farebox.

How to reserve seats?

Step 1: Sign up for Membership
- Go to the Official Bus Booking Website
- Click the globe icon in the upper right corner to change the language to English
- Click the person icon in the upper right corner, then click Join
- If your registration is successful, you must check your email inbox for a verification email and click the link to complete your registration. If you are unable to click the link within 60 minutes, you will have to re-register.
Step 2: Login and Reserve Yout Bus Seats
- After you login your account, then click 【SML route】Taichung-SML in the upper.
- Click the image. You can not reserve seats from Taichung Railway Station. You can only reserve seats from Taichung Gancheng Station or HSR Taichung Station to Sun Moon Lake.
- Note: Taichung Gancheng Station: Google Map. The Nantou Bus Ticketing Boothis located next to Exit 5 of Taichung High Speed Rail Station. Sun Moon Lake: Google Map.
- Choose Taichung to Sun Moon Lake or Sun Moon Lake to Taichung, then click “Buy now”.
- Select your (Start Station), (End Station), (Date), (Available hours) and (Choose quantity or spec.), then click “Next：Add to cart”.
- Next page, click (Proceed to payment), then click (I agree)
- Fill in your Contact information. Scroll down and you will see the following screenshot. They don’t accept credit card at this time so you will pay on-site. Just click (Proceed to payment)
- (現場付款：Please pay on-site on the day of the appointment.)
Step 3: How to Cancel
- Login your accont, then click (My Order), click your booking.
- You will see the following screen. Click Refund Request at the bottom.
- Click the green checkbox 我同意退款條款 (I agree to the refund terms)
- Since their system is not instant, once you submit your refund request, their staff will process it as quickly as possible and proactively notify you once the cancellation is complete.
- If you fail to redeem your ticket three times, your account will be blacklisted.
Step 4: Check-in at least 20 minutes before departure
- Check your email, you will receive your QRcode or you can find it in your account.
- Check in at least 20 minutes before departure. I recommend that you check in early as there may be long queues.
- Go to their ticket booth at Taichung Gancheng Station, Taichung High Speed Rail Station or Sun Moon Lake.
- Show the QRCode to staff.
- The driver will ask who in the queue has a reserved seat ticket. If you have reserved a seat. You have the right to board the bus first.
- Swipe your EasyCard when getting on and off the bus.
