14 hiking trails in Dakeng Scenic Area

There are currently 14 hiking trails in Dakeng Scenic Area, with a total length of about 17.7 kilometers, and they are divided into different levels of difficulty. Trails 1 to 8 were opened in early 1981, and were built based on the natural terrain of Dakeng Mountain and the intersecting streams. The highest altitude is 859 meters. Trail 9 was opened in December 2005, Trail 10 was completed in March 2008, and Trail 9-1 was completed in November 2013.

Trail No.7 ends at Wind-Moving Rock Park. There are lots of orchards like oranges, longan, lychee along the walkway. The trees there make a pleasant shade and the gentle slopes allow visitors to hike easily.

Dakeng Trail 9: 1.6km (Entrance: Google Map)Toilets
It’s well-shaded and quiet with great view to see. You can overlook the scenery of 11th Redevelopment Zone up here, and gaze into an ammunition depot site during the Japanese occupation and Dali River. The Earthquake Park is located in front of the entrance.

There’s a farmer market on the way to the entrance, so visitors can buy some local agricultural products here.

It’s flat. From Wind-Moving Rock Park at the end, you can overlook the scenery of Fengyuan District and the environmental protection chimney at Houli Incinerator. At the mid of the path is a Guanyin pavilion with white Guanyin Statue which attracts many pilgrims. There are also some amusing facilities and pavilions along the way.

There are various orchards along the way, and it ends at Wind-Moving Rock Park. There are many pavilions for visitors to take a rest well in the park.

This trail is divided into 5 parts: Bamboo Forest Walkway, Acacia Wood Walkway, Paper Flower (Bougainvillea) Section, Alocasia odora (Giant Taro) Ecological Section and Qiaobi Xiongfeng. It’s rich in natural resources, and visitors can be educated by the interpretive signs along the trail. There are ties ballast path, natural soil trail, wooden stairways, and some pavilions and observatories for visitors to get rest.

The part of log trestle is more challenging. Please be aware of your own physical condition before entering the trail.
Trail No.1 is located in a forest area and bypasses orchards, bamboo forests and crosses two valleys on the way. It’s back to mountains with humid subtropical climate. You’ll find many fern species there and its rich original natural ecology resources. It presents diverse appearances.

Dakeng Trail 3 : 1.3km (Entrance: Google Map)
This is one of the more challenging routes of the Dakeng Trails.
Trail No.3 contains rich ecological resources and various wildlife like birds, plants, animals, insects. There are trailside plant signs with brief description help visitors to recognize the wildlife better.

Dakeng Trail 5-1 : 1.6 km
Due to its altitude, it’s suitable for energetic people or those who enjoy scaling the heights.
Along Trail No.5, which connects the endpoints of Trail No.1 to 4, there are various beautiful overlooking spots with great view, including Hesong Pavilion, Gaofong Pavilion and Touke Peak. You can overlook Taichung city or the Dadu mountain terrace in good weather.

It’s suitable for energetic people.
Trail No.4 preserve the original environment, and since there is little shade along the trail, you can have sweeping views of Taichung city. The trail is winding and challenging.

There are 2 ties path sections that are close to 60 degree vertical climb and are really difficult and challenging.
